Hero Points

Hero Points

Hero points are a method of signifying heroic effort or prowess by the PC. They will be awarded by the DM based on:

  • Heroic actions of the PC
  • PC backstory depth and completeness
  • Helping with cleanup / wiki maintenance
  • Upon leveling up
  • Any other circumstance the DM thinks is appropriate.

All characters start the campaign with 2 Hero Points.

Hero Point Usage
Hero Points may be utilized using one of two methods:

1. Using Hero Points
This method generally has a minor effect upon the game.
Removes Hero Points from the pool until the next game session. These points will be restored at the beginning of the next game session. For Hero Points used to modify die rolls, the number to the left of the slash is the modifier if the points are used before rolling the die. The number to the right of the slash is the modifier if the points are used after rolling the die.

Examples

Number of Hero Points Effect
1 +2/+1 to attack/damage/saving throw roll
2 +4/+2 to attack/damage/saving throw roll
3 Reroll an attack, damage, or saving throw roll
3 Auto-stabilize from dying
3 Ask for divine guidance (DM nudge) — If the DM doesn’t feel you need help, then these points are not charged.

2. Burning Hero Points
This method generally has a major effect upon the game or character.
Utilizing Hero Points by burning them permanently removes them from the pool.

Examples

Number of Hero Points Effect
1 Reroll hit point die
1 +8/+4 to attack/damage/saving throw roll
2 Automatic 20 on die roll
3 Turn killing blow into incapacitating blow (0 hitpoints and unconscious)
